Born on August 14, 1965, Alhassan Ado Garba, better known by his nickname Alhassan Doguwa, currently serves as the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives in Nigeria. In Kano State’s Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency, he is a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and represents that constituency.

On August 14, 1965, he was born into a political family that was Hausa. Alhassan Ado is the son of a prominent member of the First Republic NEPU, which was a political party based in Kano that later joined the United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA). At the time, the UPGA formed a strong and formidable national opposition to the Northern People’s Congress, which was the dominant party in Nigeria at the time (NPC). The late Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Government saw Hon. Garba’s father, Alhaji Ado, win election as an Honorable Member of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Alhassan Ado Garba was a focused personality who joined politics immediately after graduating from Bayero University Kano. He became elected member of the House of Representatives under the defunct Social Democratic Party in 1992, and it did not take him long to register his presence in the House. Alhassan Ado Garba graduated with a First Class degree in Mass Communications from Bayero University Kano. He was one of the leading members that backed Engr. Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s bid to become the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Third Republic.

In 1992, Alhassan Ado Garba won election to the House of Representatives of the Nigerian National Assembly on the ticket of the now-defunct Social Democratic Party. He was one of the leading members that backed the election of Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Third Republic.

In the year 2000, Alhassan Ado Garba was selected for the position of Special Adviser on Environment to the Governor of Kano State. Later in his career, he served as a Special Adviser on Governmental Affairs and Political Party Affairs to the two Presidents of the Senate, Chief Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ken Nnamani.

In 2007, Hon. Alhassan Ado was successful in his bid to win election to the House of Representatives, where he currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Hon. Doguwa was re-elected by the enterprising people of the Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency in 2011, where it became more clear that he is indeed an asset to Parliament, having served as the Chairman[2] House Committee chairman on MDGs. Having served the nation and especially his constituents diligently, Hon. Doguwa has worked hard to serve both the nation and especially his constituents. Moreover, Hon. Alhassan holds the position of Chairman of the African Network of Parliamentarians on MDGs.

After his Speakership nominee, Femi Gbajabiamila, was defeated by Yakubu Dogara in 2015, Garba was elected to serve for a fourth term in the Lower Chamber, where he was overwhelmingly elected as the 8th Assembly’s Chief Whip. This came after Garba was elected to serve for the fourth time in the Lower Chamber in 2015. The fact that he was accepted as Chief Whip, on the other hand, caused a gap in his connection with Femi Gbajabiamila, which ultimately tore their team apart and brought an end to their lengthy relationship.

Alhassan Ado Garba is a man who has four wives and a total of 28 children. He is a big believer in having a large family.
