721 Persons Secured FG Employment With Fake Certificates In Six Agencies

Published

Not less than 721 members of staff of Federal Government agencies secured employment using forged academic certificates between 2015 and 2018, The PUNCH learnt on Wednesday.

A document obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, indicated that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission detected the figure after it carried out certificate verification of six government agencies.

The six agencies are Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Prisons Service, Pension Transition Arrangement Department, Federal Fire Service and National Identity Management Commission.

At the end of the exercise, the commission was able to verify academic certificates of 40,808 staff of the six Federal Government agencies.

According to the figure obtained by our correspondent, 11,996 certificates had been verified by the commission, while 721 certificates were found to have been forged.

An ICPC source, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said that investigation was still ongoing to determine the authenticity of the other certificates submitted by staff of the concerned agencies.

He said the task was being carried out in conjunction with academic institutions that appeared on the certificates, adding that about 5000 certificates had been cleared by some of the institutions as at April 2019.

The figure obtained by our correspondent, which was verified by the ICPC source, said that between 2015 and 2018, assets worth N2.62bn were recovered by the agency from those who were found guilty of misusing their position as public officers. They included 158 government vehicles, buildings, plots of land and farmlands.

The source said, “ICPC was contacted to verify the authenticity of academic and professional certificates of staff at the six FG agencies. Some of the certificates have been returned but we have 721 certificates verified to have been forged. Those who submitted the said certificates are still in court while we have secured varying degrees of court judgment for some of them. It is still an on-going exercise.”

Another figure obtained by our correspondent from the spokesperson for the ICPC, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, revealed that between 2015 and 2019, cash worth N29bn was recovered by the commission from individuals and organisations, while 66 convictions were so far recorded. She added that within the period, 273 cases were filed by the commission in various courts across the country.

I Can Hack Into Any Bank Account – Arrested Footballer

Published

A suspected telephone hacker who was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ladipo, Lagos, has revealed that he can gain access into any bank account.

According to Vanguardngr, 31-year-old suspect, Dare Oladimeji, is a Senior Secondary School Certificate holder. He is also a footballer and just returned from Dubai, having concluded his two years contract with ALAIN FC.

He was tracked to Idi-Oro area of Lagos, during investigation into the withdrawal of N200,000 from a victim’s account. Asked if he had any connivance with bank staff, he said “No,” adding that he got the necessary details from Google.

His words: “I work on sim cards to get money. When I lay my hands on any sim card, I would slot it into any small phone that is not android. When that is done, I would press a code which brings out the list of banks the owner of the sim uses.

For example, if the person is using GTB, I will proceed with the normal code of *37*100#. If the person has money , we would use it to buy recharge card to confirm how much the owner has, through the debit alert that would pop in to reveal the balance.

Thereafter, we would transfer the money into donors accounts, from where we would withdraw the money”.

Asked what happens if phone is locked, he said, “Locking of phones with password does not stop me from hacking into any account, as long as I can lay my hands on the sim card.

All I need to do is to remove the sim and slot it into a small phone. The only thing that can prevent me from hacking into account through phone, is when the SIM card itself is locked.

But most people don’t lock their sim cards, they only lock their phones. You can only beat my likes to the game if you lock your sim card.

When I came back from Dubai in 2016, I brought N7 million , out of which I gave one Mr Shola N5 million for a genuine business with NUPENG. Unfortunately, the man died. So I decided to venture into this business which is a small version of yahoo yahoo because I didn’t want to go into robbery.“

“Nobody Born Of A Woman Can Stop Buhari From Re-Appointing Me,” Dalung Declares

Published

on

By

Immediate past Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has announced that no one can prevent him from being re-appointed into President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term cabinet if God wills it.

President Buhari formally dissolved his first term cabinet on the eve of his May 29, 2019 inauguration for a second term in office, and Pulse has repeatedly reported that there is intense lobbying and jostling in Abuja from persons who want to play a role in the president’s second term administration.

Buhari is yet to name his second term team or make any appointment of any sort since last month’s inauguration ceremony, but Dalung tells Punch that he stands a chance of getting back in, even though opinions on his first term stewardship remain divided.

No, there is nobody born of a woman that can stop my appointment if God wants it to be. I am not carried away by such sentiments”, Punch reports Dalung as saying during an interview session.

What Dalung aims to do differently
Dalung is better remembered for a first term in which he dropped grammatical bloopers and Freudian slips by the bucketful, angered male football teams and fell out with the football authorities time and again.

Dalung also promised to rehabilitate a dilapidated National Stadium in Lagos, but the edifice remains as abandoned and decayed as ever.

The Abuja stadium and several other sporting facilities across Nigeria were also not maintained on Dalung’s watch.

Asked what he would do differently should he return to the president’s cabinet, Dalung says: “It’s God that gives power. If He chooses again to give me power, I think I will focus more on consolidating on a very viable grassroots development architecture; I will redirect most of government’s funds to that. The professional athletes will always be compensated for representing the country, but we need to balance things.

“I hope to also de-emphasize the construction of some of the giant sporting infrastructure that we have, as well as align myself with the world by adapting to convertible methods. You can build up a sporting arena, play and still use the venue for another thing. I saw that when we went for the Commonwealth Games (Australia 2018).

“I will try to develop a workable and encompassing relationship between major sports stakeholders and the federations, including the media. I will also work closely with governors as concurrent legislative partners. I have travelled throughout this country and found that some states don’t have any stadium.

“Federations will be made to organise programs in states and embark on specialization sports, where every state will develop interest in its own sports.”

Buhari’s valedictory speech

On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari delivered his last address to his first term cabinet.

Among other things, the president told his departing ministers that

“I want to put on record that your achievements in the last three and a half hears has guaranteed your position in the history books of this nation. You have certainly built the foundations for an improved economy and a more purposeful government”.

Pundits have advised the president not to take forever to assemble his next team after it took him six months to put his cabinet together in 2015.

Analysts say the president used his first term cabinet to settle political debts and appease the patronage network that underpins governance in Africa’s most populous nation.

Nigeria’s constitution allows for one minister to be named from each of the country’s 36 states, for purposes of fair representation and a reflection of “federal character“.
