Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour comes from a family of lawyers. He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour and Lawyer Olawale. Bode Rhodes-Vivour, a former judge on the Supreme Court of Nigeria, is his uncle and the late Judge Akinwunmi Rhodes-Vivour, his grandpa.

Gbadebo Patrick Rhodes-Vivour, popularly known as GRV, is a Nigerian architect, activist, and politician. He was born on March 8, 1983. He is the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of Lagos State in the forthcoming 2023 election for governor of Lagos State.

In the 2019 Nigerian Senate elections in Lagos State, he was the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) senatorial candidate for the Lagos West senatorial district.

He graduated with a bachelor’s in architecture from the University of Nottingham and a master’s in the same subject from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Following his first master’s, he joined the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which he finished in 2009. Afterwards, he earned a second master’s degree in research and public policy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Rhodes-Vivour comes from a legal family. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour and Lawyer Olawale. His grandpa was late Judge Akinwunmi Rhodes-Vivour, and his uncle is Bode Rhodes-Vivour, a former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and lawyer. When Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour lived in the UK, he worked for Franklin Ellis Architects. Before entering politics fully, he worked with SISA, Cliff Consulting (now known as Building Partnership CCP), and Patrick Wayi after returning to Nigeria.

He ran as a candidate for the PDP in the 2019 senate election to represent Lagos West. The incumbent, who he referred to as a “absentee senator spending more resources pursuing a futile governorship bid in Ogun State, rather than focusing on Lagos West that have already given him their mandate,” was one of his campaign’s main goals, along with improving the district’s infrastructure and ousting the incumbent.

Adeola “Yayi” Olamilekanola, the incumbent senator and candidate for the former ruling party APC, received 323,817 votes to his 243,516, placing him second in the final results. Rhodes-Vivour received 39.40% of the votes, while Adeola received 41.38%.

He challenged the outcome in court, arguing that it shouldn’t stand because of electoral interruptions and violence. The court, however, decided that wasn’t sufficient and upheld the election of his rival.

He is the Labour party’s candidate for governor of Lagos State in the forthcoming 2023 election. He had originally been a candidate for the PDP, but he withdrew his name immediately before the primary election.

He switched over to the Labour party and ran in the substitute election where the actual candidate for the party was to be chosen. He won with 111 votes, defeating former All Progressives Party (APC) leader Moshood Salvador, who had 102 votes.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is married to Dr. Ify Rhodes-Vivour, a molecular geneticist by training and the granddaughter of Augustine Aniebo, a former military administrator for the states of Kogi and Borno.
